AI Disclosures

Fourth Meridian uses artificial intelligence in two places: the Daily Brief and Conversations. This page explains, plainly, what that involves, what is shared with the model provider, what Fourth Meridian records, and the limits of what the AI produces.

What the AI does

The Daily Brief. For a Space you can read, Fourth Meridian can produce a short, plain-language summary of what changed — balances, holdings, activity and history — and what may deserve your attention. The figures in a Brief are computed by Fourth Meridian from your connected data; the model describes them.

Conversations. You can ask questions about the money connected to a Space — your position on any date, spending, income, investments, debt, how your net worth moved — and run what-if projections: different spending, income changes, contributions, returns, one-off expenses, debt payoff, and what it would take to reach a goal by a date. Every figure in an answer comes from Fourth Meridian's own calculation tools over your connected data and the records you enter; the model decides which tool to call and explains the result.

The AI takes no actions. It cannot move money, pay bills, trade, open or close accounts, or change your balances, transactions or connections. It cannot see your employer, payroll or tax records: income is what actually arrived in your accounts.

What a conversation can see

A conversation reads only the Space it is open in: its connected accounts, balances, transactions, investments, debts (including any interest rate or minimum payment you entered), and what you have asked Fourth Meridian to remember in that Space. It cannot see other Spaces, accounts not connected to that Space, or other people's data. Nothing you type in a conversation can change what it is allowed to read.

The kind of guidance you get

Answers are AI-generated planning insight from your data. They are not financial, investment, tax or legal advice, and Fourth Meridian's AI is not a licensed financial adviser, broker, tax adviser or attorney. Fourth Meridian classifies each answer as understanding (what is true of your money), planning (options, trade-offs and scenarios) or a recommendation about a specific action, and shows a notice beside planning and recommendation answers — with additional wording when the subject touches securities, tax, legal questions, retirement accounts or borrowing. The AI does not pick securities or funds for you, provide market research or price forecasts, or determine tax or legal questions; it can point out where they matter. You are solely responsible for any decisions you make.

Accuracy and limitations

AI output can be incomplete or wrong. It may misinterpret data, omit context, or present a confident-sounding summary that does not match reality — and its figures can only be as complete as the accounts connected to the Space. Always verify anything important against the underlying accounts and figures before acting on it.

What is shared with the model provider

Fourth Meridian uses OpenAI's API to generate Briefs and Conversation answers. To do that, the following is sent to OpenAI for processing, for the Space the Brief or conversation is about:

• Your questions, and the earlier messages in the same conversation.
• The Space's name, and the first names of its members where an account is shown to you under a member's name (for example "Alex's checking").
• Accounts: for accounts shared with you in full, the account's display name, its institution and the last digits of its number (the "mask"); for accounts shared with you at balance-only level, a generic name. Account types, balances and, for debts, any interest rate or minimum payment you entered.
• Transactions: for each transaction the answer draws on, its date, the merchant name and the transaction description as your bank reported them (with long runs of digits removed), the amount, the category, whether it is pending, the name of the account it posted to and, for a transfer between your own accounts, the other account.
• Holdings and history: positions, prices and values, and the daily balance and net-worth history Fourth Meridian has computed.
• Memory: what you have asked Fourth Meridian to remember in that Space, and the projections it has previously given you.

Your password, your bank or brokerage credentials, and the access tokens Fourth Meridian holds for your linked accounts are never sent, and neither is your e-mail address.

Fourth Meridian does not train any model on your data and does not opt in to any provider programme that would use it for training. OpenAI's handling of data submitted through its API — including how long it retains API inputs and outputs — is governed by OpenAI's own terms and policies, which Fourth Meridian does not control; see our Privacy Policy for how your data is handled overall.

What Fourth Meridian remembers

• The conversation itself is kept only in your browser, for up to 24 hours, and "New chat" clears it. Fourth Meridian does not store your questions or the AI's answers on its servers.
• A what-if under discussion is carried between messages for up to 2 hours, and only within the same conversation.
• Memory holds only what you ask Fourth Meridian to remember: goals, planned expenses, rules (like "keep six months of expenses") and planning figures, plus a record of the cash projections it has given you so a later answer can compare a projection with what actually happened. Memory is stored per person and per Space, shown in the Memory panel, and yours to edit or delete there. A remembered figure is never treated as a measured balance, and Fourth Meridian never remembers balances, ownership, access, or instructions about how it should behave.

Operational records

For every model call, Fourth Meridian records technical facts: which user and Space the call was for, a conversation identifier, the model used, token counts, latency, and whether the call succeeded or failed. These records never contain your questions, the AI's answers, or any financial figure. They are visible only to Fourth Meridian's operators, are used to monitor reliability and cost, and are never used in an answer.

Your control

AI features are part of the Service and cannot currently be switched off individually. You control what the AI remembers through the Memory panel, and you can always export or delete your data.

Changes

We may update these disclosures as our AI features evolve. Material changes will be communicated through the Service.
